Tasmanian Leaders Program Scholarships

The Tasmanian Leaders Program offers participants an opportunity to enhance their leadership capacity by meeting, exchanging ideas and working together at regular intervals through the year as well as offering the unique opportunity to speak with a cross section of today’s leaders, to hear their opinions and learn from their experiences.

In line with the Foundation’s learning and development strategy, the Foundation has awarded three Scholarships.   The successful applicants were:

Ben Stockwin

Ben Stockwin

Ben is the Principal of the Abbotsfield Primary School and has shown himself to be a very enthusiastic and professional educationalist.

Ben is currently working with three colleague principals to amalgamate four school communities into two new built schools.

Ben is also the President of the Tasmanian University Surf Club, a representative of the Tasmanian Surfing Team, Vice President of the Hobart College Student Representative Council and also a non-Executive Director of the Primary Industries Education Foundation.

Simon Paul

Simon Paul

Simon in his role as Coordinator  for the Clarendon Vale Neighbourhood Centre is responsible for volunteers, financial and staff management.  Simon undertakes and oversees program delivery, client liaison, service delivery and program development within the organisation’s strategic direction. 

Simon is a member of the Local Enabling Group for the Clarendon Vale Child and Family Centre and member of the South East Gateway/IFSS Alliance.

Suzanne Purdon

Suzanne Purdon

Suzanne, an early years educator, has achieved significant outcomes with communities, family and individuals across Tasmania building increased social capital and enhanced life opportunities for children and parents. Some of Suzanne’s achievements include:

  • Facilitate the establishment of a Child and Family Centre, in line with the outputs of the National Indigenous Reform Agreement and the National Partnership Agreement on Indigenous Early Childhood Development by designing and implementing a community consultation process;
  • Initiating and developing the b4 concept at Herdsman’s Cove Primary School and now across 5 primary schools in the Brighton municipality;
  • Initiating and coordinating the ‘Walk of Wonder’ in 2006 and 2007, a project that aimed to market the importance of the early years to the Brighton Municipality; and
  • Initiating, planning and launching the ‘Adopt a Patch’ project at the local nursery.

Suzanne was also the 2008 TEYF Achievement Award Winner – Inspirational Champion and received a Vocational Excellence Award in 2005 from the Sandy Bay Rotary Club.
