  • Eat Well Tasmanian Kids Coalition - Growing Our Futures Conference 2008

Project title: Eat Well Tasmanian Kids Coalition – Growing Our Futures Conference 2008
Organisation: Eat Well Tasmania Inc
Amount funded: $7,450

The Eat Well Tasmania Kids Coalition hosted the Growing Our Futures Conference on 16-17 May 2008 at the Launceston Tram Sheds. The Conference was opened by Board member Ms Alison Jacob and brought together people from all over Tasmania with an interest or involvement in working with children and families to improve nutrition and physical activity participation.

Nearly 70 enthusiastic Tasmanian community and health workers came together for the Conference to celebrate the wide range of health promotion activities happening across the state.

The Conference program included two keynote speakers, Dr Colin Bell and Dr Jim Cavaye, workshops, concurrent session which showcased a wide range of local grassroots project and plenty of networking opportunities.

Workshops covered fun physical activities for kids, eating well and what that means for little bodies, leading children into physical activity and media skills. The conference provided opportunities for organisations to showcase successful initiatives, learning, development and opportunities for the collaboration of organisations working in the areas of child nutrition and physical activity.

The Conference was a valuable experience for both delegates and presenters. Stronger links, enhanced knowledge and confidence of practitioners working to improve nutrition and physical outcomes for children were achieved. A Conference Storybook was also produced, based on the information that was facilitated on the day.

Project partners included Eat Well Tasmania Inc, Community Nutrition Unit, Oral Health Services, Tasmanian School Canteens Association, University Department of Rural Health, Premier’s Physical Activity Council, Launceston City Council, Launceston Eat Well Action Team, Population Health Priorities, Move Well Eat Well.
