• Professor Allan Carmichael

It is with great sadness that the Foundation learns of the passing of Professor Carmichael on 28 January 2012.  Allan was a much-loved paediatrician and a champion for children in Tasmania and nationally.  The Foundation recognises his tireless work to improve the health and wellbeing of children.

Professor Carmichael was Professor - Paediatrics and Child Health, University of Tasmania.  Professor Carmichael’s positions also included:

• State Adviser in Child Health Services - Department of Health and Human Services, Tasmania (1992 -);
• Senior Consultant Paediatrician - Department of Paediatrics, Royal Hobart Hospital (1992 -); and
• Emeritus Paediatrician - Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne (1992 -).

Professor Carmichael was also a member of a number of national bodies with a focus on child health, including:

• Public Health Association of Australia;
• Australian and New Zealand Association for Medical Education;
• Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Fellow);
• Division of Paediatrics & Child Health, RACP;
• Chapter of Community Child Health;
• Australian Epidemiological Association;
• Royal Society of Medicine (Fellow);
• Australian Medical Association (Tasmanian Branch); and
• International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse & Neglect.
