Rebecca Smith

From 1986 to 1999 Rebecca was a small business owner and company director, first through the development and management of two catering businesses and then a special events company incorporating advertising and marketing. As an event manager and small business owner Rebecca worked with many Tasmanian industry and community groups, multicultural associations, government agencies and small business operators from a variety of sectors.

Subsequent to this experience, Rebecca attended the University of Tasmania and moved into an area of professional policy development, majoring in Public Policy and Political Science.

Rebecca also has a Graduate Certificate in Public Sector Management from the Macquarie University. Rebecca also worked for five years at the State Office of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing in a variety of areas including Program Manager of Rural Health from 2004-2007.

For two years from 2000 – 2002, on a voluntary basis, Rebecca held the position of Professional Development Coordinator for the Institute of Public Administration (IPAA-TAS). Rebecca was also a member of the Tasmania Together Arts Culture and Heritage Benchmarking Committee and subsequently the Cultural Industry Council.

Since February 2007 Rebecca has been working as the Manager of the Office of Children and Youth Affairs, together with her role as the CEO of the Tasmanian Early Years Foundation.

Rebecca’s enjoys spending time with her three children and partner and especially loves escaping to the east coast of Tasmania.
