Aileen has a background in social work and teaching and has worked in the human services sector for over 28 years.  She has since held a range of direct practice, policy and senior management roles within the areas of disability, homelessness, family violence, community health and child and family services both within government and non government services.

In the recent past Aileen was CEO of Bethany Community Support Geelong for over 7 years.  Aileen lead its growth into a highly regarded innovative community service organisation providing an integrated platform of services to vulnerable individuals, children and families.

Aileen has been a Board Member and past President of the Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare and was a Member of the Victorian Government Children's Council.

In August 2008 Aileen was appointed to the newly established position of Director Reform Implementation Unit within the Department of Health and Human Services Tasmania.  Aileen's role was the reform of disability, child protection and family services and out of home care services across the state.

in 2010 Aileen's role was expanded to Director Disability and Community Services which held responsibility for Disability services, sexual assault counselling services, family violence counselling services, neighbourhood houses, integrated family support services, Gateways and Gambling.

Aileen is currently the Commissioner for Children, Tasmania.
