Mark has a lengthy background in a range of public sector roles. Mark joined the Australian Public Service in Canberra under their graduate scheme after completing a law degree from the University of Tasmania. After 10 years in policy development, research and ministerial liaison in workplace relations, Mark moved to Melbourne with the Australian Investments and Securities Commission as part of the Office of the Chairman. |
Mark returned to Tasmanian in 2004 to manage the Tasmanian Community Fun, Tasmania's largest community grant body, allocating $5-6 million each year. During his time with the Fund, grants awarded grew to over $50 million to 1,200 community projects, with funded projects in just about every locality in the State. Many of these projects were funded in the early years sector, including childcare and playgroups, parenting programs, playground equipment, toy libraries, support for children cared for out-of-home and medical research.
Immediately prior to joining the Foundation, Mark was a full-time carer for his two children aged 18 months and 4 years. He believes undertaking 'Tasmania's Biggest Job' as a parent will stand him well in good stead as the CEO of the Foundation, and his role with the Foundation will help him continue to learn as a parent.
Mark will be balancing his two roles by working four days a week.
